From a thatched shed to today’s temple — eight decades
In 1351 Bangabda (1944 CE) the Mother’s worship began in a small thatched shed beside Ghoshpara Road. Not a single day of seva has been missed since. This is the story of that journey.
Shivalinga and Nandi adjoining the temple · Radha-Govinda shrineA few families’ resolve
A few local families began the Mother’s worship, in the form of Dakshina Kali, in a small thatched shed beside Ghoshpara Road. From the start the neighbourhood took on the daily puja as best it could — from the dawn Mangal Aarti to the night Shayan Aarti.
Devotees’ donations built, step by step, a permanent garbhagriha, the natmandir and the courtyard. Later a Shivalinga with Nandi and the idols of Sri Sri Radha-Govinda were installed in the courtyard.
Ma Dinotarini as Dakshina Kali
Here the Mother is worshipped as Dakshina Kali — her right foot on Shiva’s chest, the boon-giving gesture in her right hand, the khadga in her left. The name Dinotarini means she who carries the humble across. Devotees hold that a vow made in earnest is never returned empty-handed.
The daily worship offers red hibiscus, bel leaves and sindoor. Saturdays and Tuesdays draw the largest gatherings.

In 2023 the Dinotarini Kali Mata Trust was registered. Daily seva, festivals, bhog distribution and conservation now rest with the Trust, and its accounts are published to devotees every year.
Eight decades on, the temple’s doors remain open to everyone regardless of caste or faith — as they were on the first day.
